A new youth centre opened its doors in Anse Boileau this week, offering a range of services for young people in the district including vocational training, sports facilities, a library, and mental health counselling.
The centre, funded through a partnership between the government and a local NGO, is the first of its kind in southern Mahé. It will serve approximately 400 young people aged 14 to 25 in the surrounding communities.
"This is what investment in our future looks like," said District Administrator Pauline Hoareau at the inauguration ceremony. "We are giving our young people the tools they need to build their own paths."
The centre's vocational programmes will initially focus on carpentry, hospitality, and digital skills — three sectors identified as high-growth areas in the national economic development plan. Mental health services will be provided by trained counsellors three days a week.
